The Memories Were Never There

You made me laugh and it stopped my tears.  You made me laugh and it stopped my fears, but when you made me smile something inside of me began to change.

The laughter is only temporary because when the source of it goes away the after effects only last so long.  The smile that can break across my face will light up my eyes.  The smile will never be straight but, rather, it would be crooked.  To further the delight of this smile, a soft glow appears on my cheeks.

This is what you do to me.

The pain that I knew for so long has slowly begun to ebb away.  I no longer feel the need to cry.  Fears interwoven with anxieties dissipate as the smiles become more frequent and linger.

This is what you do to me.

At nightfall, I would begin to reminisce of times that are past but now these evenings are filled with more placid moments of silence and solitude.

The solitude is not one of despair for those days are disappearing into a past that will be forgotten.  As I sit here and write these lines, there is no bad feeling, no contention or even anguish.  What I am experiencing instead is a peaceful contentment after contemplating over my thoughts of the day.

This is what I do for me.

I slide behind the wheel of my car and as I do I look up one last time to the place I called home.  It is now an empty place that holds no memories.  I suppose it never did.  As a lonely tear streaks down my cheek, I turn on the car and back it out of its space.  Once I hit that highway, I know there is no turning back.  I’m looking for a new beginning, a new life.  Will someone be there to greet me when I reach the end?  I’m looking for someone strong; stronger than I.

This is what we do.

Sweet Surrender

They met at business and she got in his car.  He took her to a nice restaurant to wine and dine her.  The conversation was light and funny.  They discovered a lot about each other.  He was an older man than she was.  It didn't bother either one of them what anyone else thought that night.

They laughed at each other.  Little did he know that she knew what he was up to.  She played along to see where the night would lead.

Dinner was wonderful she says.  He seems very pleased that she is happy and content with him.  He invites her to take a stroll at the beach.

They take blankets, coats, and scarves to keep warm.  Were these items good enough to keep them warm?  Were they even necessary?

As they stood on the sand, she couldn't keep her balance.  He asked for a couple of hugs and she acquiesced so that she would use his body to stay up.  He loomed so far over her small frame.  He leaned down and put his arms around her stroking the the middle of her back.

"I wonder?" He said to himself.  She felt him very lightly and gently his cheek touched her, and he felt her melt into his arms.  He didn't dare insist on more.  She just felt so good in his arms.  "How long had it been since he held someone like that?" He pondered.  He didn't want to be presumptuous and asked her if she wanted to sit down on the blanket so they would be more comfortable.  They sat down next to each other looking out at the ocean; the waves breaking on the beach.

She looked so beautiful to him. She will never be his, he thought.  He took her hand in his and she didn't pull away, a good sign to him.  She trusted him he could tell and he wondered why.  They barely knew each other.

"Isn't it amazing how we can feel each other's skin?" She said.  He didn't answer.  She felt so good to him.  Did she feel the same?  He wondered.  He wished that he knew her thoughts and feelings.  He couldn't tell except that she accepted his embrace.

Again, he wanted her to accept him. "Do you want to lay down so that you may be comfortable?" He asked of her.  Unbelievably, she acquiesced again and lay next to him.  They looked into each other's eyes and she saw the enlightenment dancing in his eyes.  Could he tell, she wondered, that she was nervous?  She knew there was no turning back.  She had let it go too far.  He was too kind with her and she didn't want to hurt his feelings.  She didn't feel the same way as he.  Yet, as he came close to her lips, she didn't refuse.  He lightly caressed her lips and it sent a shock of electricity through her body.  She had never been kissed like that before.  She wanted more.

He knew right away that he had taken the right course of action.  She hadn't pulled away from his kiss.  He played with her lips and teased them with light brushes.  His hands never were far.  They stayed in the small of her back for he was afraid to see her withdraw.  She shocked herself when she lightly caressed his lips with the tip of her tongue.  He returned the favor.

Their bodies remained lightly touched like a paintbrush on a canvas.  The strokes remained gentle yet persistent as the paintbrush creating its masterpiece on the canvas.  He sought and every time she acquiesced.  He didn't want to take more than he thought he deserved.  Only the night and the ocean knew what happened on that beach.  The hours went by and the dawn broke at the far end of the horizon.  The sky turned from pitch black to a deep blue, to a deep purple.

They stood next to each other and looked at the ocean and then back at each other.  They saw that it was good.  They knew that they were going to be okay.  They walked back to his car and he drove back to the business where her car continued to be stationed.

They bid each other farewell with lingering soft brushes of their lips.  They almost didn't want to leave each their own way.

She was the first to leave the parking lot and, as she looked behind her through the rear view mirror, saw that he just sat there in his car.

He sat there in his car reveling in the night's encounter.  It was magical to him.  After a few minutes, he finally turned on the car and drove off in the opposite direction that she had.
